Steve Bradshaw : I Live at the Cambridge Parcel Hub (www.myspace.com/stevebradshawuk)

Some acoustic ditties about being chased by some cows into a river. The style of singing is very interesting to make the music original, he can't 'sing' in the normal sense so he ends up sounding like the lead crooner of The Editors. The whole effect is quite weird to be honest; the sort of thing you'd listen to if you were indeed hiding from some cows up a tree. It might scare the cows away, or they might be very, very interested. Like me.

Witch Doktors - $3 Hooker http://www.myspace.com/thewitchdoktors

Wicked CD case, it's all Aboriginal art mixed with 1950s babes. The music reminds me of the Pigeon Detectives with a bit more guts, and I love The Pigeon Detectives. The sound on the lead guitar is awesome, drenched in reverb like the Beach Boys after eating too much Haribo. The songs are also very catchy and energetic. I really like their style of music which they describe as 'primal sassy superpunkrock' and they ain't far wrong – review writing is such fun when you find stuff like this!

The Saturdays – Issues

On the other hand, I HATE WRITING REVIEWS FOR SHITTY POPULAR BANDS WHO USE COMIC RELIEF TO BECOME NUMBER ONE.

Especially when it sound like this.

To sum this up in one word would have to be THEY'VE GOT ISSUES!!

Queen and Paul Rogers - The Cosmos Rocks

Funky rocky music = DINOSUAR ROCK, or 'Old School' blues, as I would describe it. Very polished and well played and produced, but this is not going to win any prizes for originality. The ghost of Freddie Mercury haunts the singer on many different songs, some of their old techniques revisited here include an acapella introduction, some vocal 'whoas' and some half remembered guitar licks, creating an effect like the The Kings of Leon suddenly turning up to play at a rather dull school disco.
