Houston 500

Cambridge Boat Race, Monday 01/12/03

Recent Global Warming signees Houston 500 operate from a Saffron Walden bomb shelter writing songs about sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll and celebrating the seedier side of life.

As a packed, well, for a Monday night anyway, Boat Race finds out, the Houston 500 live experience is a confrontational one. Frontman Dave demands we step up and “Fill his hole” referring to the yawning chasm between stage and crowd. Soon this space is chock full of pogoing fools going la-la for the spiky likes of recent single ‘Queen Of The Crackwhores’ and ode to pornography ‘Head Down’.

Indeed, standing still to Houston 500 is impossible as Saffron Walden’s finest shake up a cocktail of sleazy rockers like Guns ‘n’ Roses, Motley Crue, and Motorhead, mix with belligerent bile, swallow and spit in molten rage. Bet you didn’t see that on Coronation Street that night…
