As Easy as AB / CD?
Histon Teachers' Band Set To Raise Money For Their School

A band made up of staff members from Histon and Impington Junior School is set to put out their first CD in order to raise money for music equipment at the school. The CD, which will come in a sleeve featuring designs produced by the children of the school, is to be released with a launch party at the school, straight after lessons on Friday March 31st in the assembly hall. As well as CDs, pop and crisps will also be on sale!

AB / CD are a guitar-toting pop-punk covers band who have been described as "indie terrorism" by influential music website Drowned in Sound. They are made up of year 4 teacher and drummer extraordinaire Judith Cullen, caretaker Richard Mingay on bass and guitar noodling and year 5 class and guitar teacher Richard Rose on rhythm guitar, badger obsession and vocal growling. Mr Rose, aka Rosey R*E*P*E*A*T, also runs the band's record label, The Big Badger Recording Co, and its parent company, the well established underground label R*E*P*E*A*T Records.

Mr Rose said of the CD "In an age in which the compulsory National Curriculum can often seem to squeeze creative enjoyment out of school life, I hope that our CD will inspire the kids we teach to be creative themselves. Not just in terms of their contributions to the artwork, but also in their own music making. I think that AB/CD show that you don't have to be a stunning musician to make a gloriously satisfying racket and to have fun; rock'n'roll is at least partly about making the most of the talents you have rather than being put off doing anything by the ones that you lack. That's what I try to inspire in my guitar lessons and in my work with R*E*P*E*A*T - and it's so gratifying to see many of my students establish themselves in the local and national music scene, and also as writers, photographers and performers, both with R*E*P*E*A*T and beyond. For instance, Histon Junior School old boys The Pilots of the Sixth were played by Radio One only this week, and there's a one time R*E*P*E*A*T writer who's just returned from LA where he was interviewing Oasis for Radio One."

The 3 track CD will be available from the school office for £2, via the Big Badger Records website www.bigbadgerrecordingco.co.uk and from R*E*P*E*A*T, PO Box 438, Cambridge, CB4 1FX - cheques to 'R. Rose' please.

AB/CD CD Launch Party - Histon and Impington Junior School - Friday March 31st, 3.30 - 4.30. Entry by ticket only!
