Then did I check the tears of useless passion,
Weaned my young soul from yearning after thine;
Sternly denied its burning wish to hasten

Down to that tomb already more than mine!
Emily Bronte

The Big Badger Recording Co are proud to announce their second proper release, 'Relics' by The Horse and His Boy, available for free download and to buy mail order from April 6th 2006.

The theme of the CD is the impossibility of escaping your past, 'the relics will never disappear'. Whatever you do to force your history from your mind, there will always be an eternity of desperation which you can never really free yourself from. The contrast between the lush musicality of the tracks and the linear, scar-like honesty of the lyrics parallels the difference between the ideal of life and the drab reality of everyday existence. The tracks are themselves some sort of music therapy, for without expressing pent up emotions you run the risk of self-destruction. They are an irritable cry of regret about lost youth, love, dreams and opportunities, an essential release of frustration with your own shortcomings as the dreams of childhood slip inevitably and tantalisingly away.

The band are a duo, Dickon James Collinson and Tom Blake, who in a former life were the backbone of Cambridge teen punks The Virgin Suicides. The Horse and His Boy are the expression of an idea that has been simmering under for a couple of years and is now ready to boil over. The CD will be launched with an appearance at CB2s basement in Cambridge on April 6th, followed by a short set at the R*E*P*E*A*T Birthday Party at Cambridge Junction on April 25th, with future gigs further afield being planned.

The 3 track demo will be available to buy at the gig, for free download from www.bigbadgerrecordingco.co.uk and for £2 from the R*E*P*E*A*T Po Box.
