Stand Up to Racism Newsletter – November 2017

The large amount of activity we are involved with reflects the period in which we are living. There is a serious rise in racist incidents, but just as importantly, there is a new confidence and vitality amongst anti racist campaigners

To help us keep building the anti racist movement, please get involved in any of the below, or an idea of your own!

Football for All, No to the Division Spread by The Football Lads Alliance
We have pencilled in a meeting on 'Football For All' for 7th February (tbc), with both national and local speakers from the world of football. We hope to be able to confirm details very soon.
The Football Lads Alliance is a group 'opposed to extremism' and which no doubt includes people with genuine concerns. However, as this article explains, many of those pulling the strings of this fast growing organisation have rather less innocent motives. http://www.standuptoracism.org.uk/stand-racism-football-lads-alliance/

As a result, we have been leafletting Cambridge United and plan to do so again in the run up to our meeting. Can you help us?

November is Islamophobia Awareness month – can you get involved?
We are planning events at both universities in Cambridge, perhaps focussing on the Prevent strategy. Please let us know if you want to be involved or have any ideas for eye catching initiatives.

December – Winter Comfort for Refugees including an aid convoy on December 9th
We believe that solidarity with refugees is a political as well as a humanitarian act. For this reason we will be collecting money and goods in the run up to the convoy on December 9th. We will be collecting money at events across Cambridge in the next few weeks (eg Scrap the Cap rally on 18.11.17, Mill Road Winter Fair on 2.12.17) and would encourage our supporters to do the same. You can download a collection sheet to use amongst your friends and workmates here http://www.standuptoracism.org.uk/wp-content2015/uploads/2017/10/winter-appeal-9th-dec-sutr-collection-sheet.pdf and read more about the convoy and what items are required here http://www.standuptoracism.org.uk/stand-racism-care4calais-winter-refugee-appeal/

Say No to Bigotry - Get Involved with Stand Up to Racism

Recent days have seen a heartening rejection of the racism and bigotry of Donald Trump and of our own Prime Minister's disgraceful appeasement of him and his policies. If we keep up the pressure we can turn the heat on Theresa May and keep the anti racist agenda in the limelight.

If we all work together we can make sure the voices of the anti racist majority are heard!
