Public Meeting
After Brexit – Why We Say Migrants Are Welcome Here
Since the referendum, there has been a worrying spike in the reported number of racist attacks. Racist abuse, graffiti and stickers have tragically been accompanied by physical attacks, with the deaths of a Pole in Harlow and a Muslim in Milton Keynes.
However, most people in Britain are not racist. Tens of thousands of people have joined demonstrations in support of refugees and millions more have donated money and goods. The racists are a tiny minority, but their views are given publicity by the mainstream media and an establishment which thrives on division and prejudice.
We know that people face problems with housing, education, healthcare and employment, but none of these are the fault of refugees and migrants. We call on people to Stand Up to Racism and to work together to help build a better, fairer world.
