THE McCRARY SISTERS- Let’s Go

For those amongst us who love rousing gospel music then sisters Ann, Deborah, Regina and Alfreda (great name) are here to save our souls. Daughters of the late Rev. Samuel McRary, member of the legendary gospel quartet, The Fairfield Four, like many singers in their genre, the girls grew up singing at home and at church. Except, not like everyone who sings in church, they went on to perform with Bob Dylan, Elvis, Isaac Hayes, The Black Keys and Stevie Wonder, amongst many other musical accomplishments. Though thematically, ‘Let’s go’ is praising the Lord, this will appeal to anyone that likes good soul singers, uplifting melodies and a sprinkle of stardust. This isn’t just a group; it’s a legacy. Joy to the world and all that.

Released 9th March, 2015.

TULA- River

You just get a sense from listening to the latest single from Berlin-based Swedish quintet, Tula, that they are going to be big. Not quite pop, not quite triphop, ‘River’ is just so damn cool, I don’t know where to put it. What Lamb might sound like with less sinister vocals with a bit of Massive Attack thrown in for a laidback feel, Tula have also made a splash (see what I did there?) in Berlin’s club scene with their cover of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’. But they can write their own tunes too and they’re bringing them over here, with the help of hands that have twiddled knobs for the likes of Madonna and Kylie. So wade through the duck-weed and old beer cans and dive straight in. Tsk.
