And. Here. We. Go…

There is a tension in the air that could not possibly be created by one single event. I should have known that it was inevitable. The awkward, hushed meetings in the hallway tell it all. And now the only thing left to do is to ask the question that no one else dare ask…

Screaming Daisies – We Are The New Revolution EP
Right. I’m not quite sure what to make of this. Given to me as a CD and fuck all else to go on. I shall go on the facts that I may well have made up. After a little googling (that is not a euphemism) I think they are from and/or near Cambridge. Although as to the rest of the website claims, well, they get a little bleary. Presumably named after the Bush lyric from Greedy Fly (look a the site, it’s a dead giveaway) they are actually rather great. There’s hints of Smashing Pumpkins in there, our very own MBA and some Rage. It’s almost emo territory sometimes. Which is not a bad thing at all. Of the three tracks on here “Septembers Ghost” is probably the most accessible with a huge chorus. Actually, they all have huge choruses. But that’s just me. I love an anthem. Irresponsible and/or otherwise. Check them out live: 4th March – Portland Arms, Cambridge

Librium – Untitled
Well, Screaming Daisies were a much easier write than this. All I got was a CD with Librium and a phone number written on it (I am not going to ring it, I am scared of phones. Or contact. Or anything. The list is never ending). Essentially, this sounds like the Libertines or more precisely Babyshambles. Which is great but in their more reggae style than the punk style. It’s all awfully well put together. The opening track, which I have no idea what it’s called, see’s sparring singers putting together an incredibly catchy tune. I wish I could write more about it to be fair but a distinct lack of information hasn’t given me much to go on. But whoever they are and wherever they may be, a slot on every NME tour in every branded tent on the festival circuit beckons. Update: I have just sent them a text message. And now I have one back. And now I have replied. Oh and now a missed called. I shall keep you updated, live coverage for once. Hurrah! It’s exciting. Right onto the next…

George Demure - Liza
So hurrah! A thousand miles away from all this rock and/nor roll we rock up with this. It’s wonderful electro pop. Lead track Liza is simple yet wonderful pop music. But in the best way of not even trying. It all sounds so effortless. Second track on here is a cover of the Stranglers “Golden Brown” again making it an effortless cover of a great song but making it his own. This is how things should be done. Be yourself, let your influences influence you but don’t try to become them. Thank you George Demure for this. I can’t give you a link at the moment but I will try to find one.
