Dactyl Terra, Rainyday Rainbow and (almost) Bubblegum Hypnosis
5/03/2024
Clwb Ifor Bach

Sadly I missed the first band Bubblegum Hypnosis as I was taking a dose and sprinting over to Clwb because I’m a dopey dullard with a disease for poor time management. I am gutted I missed them but my band and they have played together before in the land of Bristol, so I know how groovy they are already! I’m sure we will cross paths again. My psychedelic brothers in Rainy Day told me how good the set was and how much of a buffering buggering bastard I am for missing it. But have a listen here

Rainyday Rainbow blew my head off from start to finish. They got me up on stage (which was a surprise to me) to sing on their killer Baby in the Basement, an honour to boogy with the boys. I must say I caught that they have definitely carried the huge sound they gathered from the Arena to Clwb Ifor Bach, they are running on a special type of momentum at the moment. The sound of the whole night was great. They have definitely grown as a band and focused in on their sound after brewing it up in I assume a big vat of acid.

I really enjoyed their set and do think they are an incredible act. The fashion sense of a god, Tom and Ed drip from head to toe every gig. Osian and Evan take a cooler approach to their clothing, but good gosh does it work, you must, you need, you have to catch this band.

Big and large things beckon for these disco eyed dancers I’m sure!

Dactyl Terror appeared on stage calm and collected. I’ve always dug them and they are definitely one of the best jam bands going right now. They send you down a Grateful Dead-esque journey with tight beats, great tones, funky sounds, and a great ear for texture. The mix for them was great also, such a good sounding night and a slamming bill.

They are jam on toast, buttery jammy toast. A great show they put on as they always do. The cool Pink Floyd-ish ambiance of their sound fitted the lights gorgeously. Title Tk by The Breeders popped into my head with some of the synth parts, a very cool mix of sounds. King Gizzard and early early Floyd, being blasted in a room full of Welsh people, not knowing when the song will end, feeling like you’re at an acid test, it’s always a good time at a Dactyl gig!

I spoke to a well hydrated Grant who puts on the All Roads Festival and this is in his words how he felt after the gig: “I felt like the void grew and scratched my back- and they can scratch it anytime they fucking want.”

I’d advise anyone to catch Dactyl Terror and Rainyday Rainbow if you can, come on you Welsh folk get their warm tones down ya!

And if you find yourself up the sly roads of Bristol make sure to catch Bubblegum Hypnosis for a good ol groovy time.
