We are pleased to announce that the second Gamlingay Battle of the Bands event will take place on Saturday 8th November from 3.00pm till 11.00pm
at The Community Centre, Stock Lane, Gamlingay.

Last year's event was so successful that the good people of Gamlingay created a new record company to help to develop the bands that took part!

However, we are confident that the quality of the bands this year will beat even last year's high water mark.

The competition is open to all bands, especially those who are based in and around Gamlingay but we are particularly keen to hear from bands from other parts of South Cambridgeshire.

There are actually two competitions taking place: One for 17's and under which runs from 3.00pm and one for 17's and over which runs from 7.00pm. The bands in both age groups will be judged by people drawn from the local and national music industry. All the bands will receive confidential constructive criticism on their performance and they will
be invited to attend seminars which give insights on the music business.

The winners will receive a cash prize and other prizes aimed at helping them to develop as a band including photo shoots, performance and recording opportunities.

Bokaata are an edgy and infectious Schizo-Rock trio that were formed in the summer of 2007 in the suburban depths of Cambridgeshire.

Fuelled by Gavin's obsession with the Manics, Nietzsche and Orwell, Charlie's love of samples and gadgets and Craig's complex and powerful rhythms, they burst onto the Cambridge scene in January 2008 with their first gig at the Barfly.

Since then they have played successful shows to their ever increasing fan base at Cellar Bar 8, the Man on the Moon, the Legends Bar and the Cambridge Rock Festival. With a support slot for Jubilee (featuring ex Queens of the Stone
Age and Nine Inch Nails members) and a gig at The Dublin Castle in London lined up the future looks bright.

One reviewer (A Man Called Moose) described the Bokaata experience as "an intelligent brand of grungy rock 'n' roll, on a bed of melody, sprinkled with samples and loops to augment their powerful sound and garnished with a massive dollop of passion."

Teenage Kicks 2008 - Bands Wanted

Teenage Kicks enters its Third Year "A celebration of Unsigned Music" dedicated to the memory of a talented young musician (Tom Jones Inkus) The event has become the regions biggest unsigned bands gig attracting a 1000 crowd to the cambridge corn exchange and raising money for the Huntingdon MS therapy centre. In conjunction with the event we also release a 23 track CD of Cambridges finest plus a selection of national and international unsigned bands and this gets showcased at the ITC international music convention in
Mamchester in October. 18 bands get to play infront of the music press and record industry over 3 days Oct 5-7th 2008.

The whole event is a celebration of unsigned music. The event is in its third year and is now one of the premier unsigned music events in the east of England showcasing the finest ermerging new talent from the region. The event is a non profit project and all money raised from ticket sales and CD
sales goes to the Huntingdon Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre

Dunno if you've seen this yet, but my colleagues at 6 Music have launched a new unsigned music show and podcast presented Tom Robinson

The idea is that bands with a MySpace page or online presence submit their link via the website and Tom plays out the best stuff he finds. Tom chooses every track personally (and makes the podcast himself!), so suffice to say it's a great chance for new, unsigned bands to get their material heard...

Rhythm Online is a small independent "record shop on the net", run by Nick and Jude Clarke from our small terraced house in Cambridge, and found at:

We specialise in all things alternative or 'independent', and pride ourselves on the size and comprehensive yet eclectic nature of our listings. We can offer all the newest indie releases and also a huge selection of rare and collectible items. We're also dead good at tracking stuff down for our customers, whether or not it's in our database.

WHY WE ARE CONTACTING YOU NOW

Since our site relaunched in August we've decided to make it our mission to publicise what we do more widely. We think that more than just a small group of those "in the know" around the world would enjoy and use our services if they were aware of them. We are looking, therefore, for any coverage that we can get from relevant publications and websites. Don't you think your readers would like to know about us? HOW WE STARTED

Rhythm's first incarnation was as a market stall in Plymouth, which Nick started in 1985 having quickly tired of a management job at HMV (who had 'headhunted' him when he was happily working for the now-defunct Andy's Records). The market stall soon developed into a mail order catalogue – starting with laboriously hand-typed lists in the pre-computer age, and then slowly evolving in size and sophistication until we finally took the plunge and went online in the early noughties. 2007 saw a dramatic revamp of our previously pretty low-tech website into the current format, which we are trying very VERY hard not to call Rhythm 2.0.

WHAT WE ARE ALL ABOUT

Despite the changing formats over the years, our "ethos" has remained pretty much the same – we are first and foremost music fans, and are in this for the love of music. We are passionate about offering our customers – some of the coolest and most dedicated musos in the world – a real, friendly, helpful, personal service. We care about this stuff, and we also care about making sure our listings are as up-to-date, accurate and relevant as possible for people who share our passion (obsession?).

We now have a database of over 120,000 releases, which is updated several times every day. Not many sites, we think, can match ours for comprehensiveness. The new design also means that our customers can search and interrogate the database in different ways (by release date, by keyword, by artist name), helping them to unearth many an obscure gem from the depths of our listings!
