Dude Where's My Band?

Reflections on the release of 'The Love of Richard Nixon' by Manic Street Preachers

The Manic Street Preachers, the band who inspired this website and its sister fanzine and record label, are set to release a new single 'THE LOVE OF RICHARD NIXON’ on October 18th. Here long time Manics fan and R*E*P*E*A*T reader Fi lets rip by text message having heard the single for the first time on Radio One.

Bloody Hell! Have you heard the new Manics single? I don't know what to make of it, are they trying to sound as far removed from the original Manic Street Preachers as they can? James' balls seem finally to have dropped as he appears to be singing an octave lower than usual. Where's the shiver down my spine, the hairs standing up on the back of my neck, the feeling that YES, they're back! It's probably meant to be all about the lyrics, but fuckin' hell, where have MY Manics gone? I can't believe they make us wait so long and then put out such utter shite. I think I need to take a junior disprin 'n' lie down in a darkened room!

Utter shite?

With a band like Green Day you know where you are, but not with The Manics. I can't stop singing 'American Idiot'; I love it. Green Day can bring out a song and I know I'll instantly love it. It used to be the same with The Manics, but not any more. I know things can't stay the same forever but Jesus Christ, I thought I was listening to U2 in the middle eight!

I just don't like it and that's that!

If Richey came back now he'd wonder who was singing that MOR crap bollocks. He'd probably like the title though...

Just hope the album's better...
