Ash
The Great Lost Singles Compilation

September 2023
Compiled By: Steve Bateman

With the recent and much deserved acclaim / success of Ash's thrilling, effervescent and rifftastic full-length eighth studio LP, Race The Night, which charted at #14 - the exceedingly special and evergreen band's highest Official Albums Chart Top 100 position since way back in 2004, not to mention, their current record label Fierce Panda's very first Top 20 long player ever!

Ahead of Ash's upcoming UK Tour, which as always, is guaranteed to delve deep into their dynamic back catalogue and be filled with a multitude of magical melodies and memories!

After revisiting the group's towering Discography / breathtaking Songbook - and because the power trio are justifiably famed and celebrated for their strong, instant, hook-laden, outstanding and classic 45s - I thought that, purely for fun, it would be timely to curate a customised, career-spanning 'Great Lost Singles' compilation, which could also be viewed as an accompaniment to previously released Hits, Rarities/B-sides, Best Of and A-Z Vol. 1 & 2 albums.

And hopefully, this may then inspire the Ash faithful and aficionados to assemble and title their very own individualised Mixtapes / Playlists and share these with fellow fans through popular social media platforms as well.

So, after much deliberation - with a feast of accomplished, high-quality and ageless tunes that could have made it - I eventually managed to handpick and condense my contenders into a shortlist, from which I settled on this final tracklisting and LP title...

Note from Rosey R*E*P*E*A*T

Ash were at one point (and maybe still are) the band most interviewed by R*E*P*E*A*T, and we also have reviews and live pics of them scattered across the site and in past paper zines. Have a delve around and see what you can find; after a quick search I came up with these:

2007 interview with Charlotte here

2008 interview with Mark here

2008 feature and live photos here

2010 interview with Rick here

2014 interview with Tim here

2020 lockdown video interview with Rick here

If you want to find our earlier pre digital interviews from the 90s onwards, you'll have to have a browse around ebay or hunt through our very very limited back issues.

Big thanks to Ash for always being so approachable and so damn brilliant!
